NYC Employers Required to Distribute Workplace Bill of Rights Poster by July 1, 2024
New York City employers are reminded to prepare for the new “Know Your Rights at Work” requirements effective July 1, 2024. As part of the initiative led by the New York City Council and various city departments, employers must adhere to the following mandates to promote transparency and awareness of workplace rights:
- Distribution of Notice: Employers must provide all current employees with the newly introduced multilingual “Know Your Rights at Work” poster. This obligation extends to any new hires, who starts after July 1, 2024. The poster is available here>>
- Posting Requirements: The notice must be conspicuously displayed in a location accessible to all employees. For businesses utilizing digital communication tools like intranets or mobile applications, the notice should also be posted electronically on these platforms.
- Penalties for Non-Compliance: Employers who fail to meet these requirements by the deadline risk a $500 civil penalty although first-time violators may avoid the fine by correcting the failure within 30 days of the first complaint.
The poster does not replace other federal, state and city employment law poster requirements.
