Overview
Jason Lederman heads Stein Adler Dabah & Zelkowitz’s Private Wealth, Trusts and Estates group and advises business owners, entrepreneurs, investors, real estate owners, and other high-net-worth clients on all aspects of estate planning and trust administration.
Jason’s practice is focused on developing holistic wealth transfer strategies and structuring tax-advantaged trusts, entities, and transactions. He frequently advises clients on gift and sale transactions (often involving grantor trusts, grantor retained annuity trusts, family LLCs and operating business entities), disability planning for beneficiaries with special needs, charitable giving (involving private foundations, charitable remainder trusts and charitable lead trusts), probate and trust administration, and issues related to the establishment, transfer, and succession of family businesses.
Jason has been selected to The Best Lawyers in America® “Ones to Watch” lists for the categories of Trusts & Estates and Tax Law, 2021-2027. Additionally, Jason has been selected to the list of New York Metro Super Lawyers® “Rising Stars” from 2020-2026.
Jason received his J.D. from Hofstra University School of Law, cum laude, where he was the Student Editor of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel Law Journal, and the Senior Notes and Comments Editor for the Journal of International Business and Law. He received his LL.M in Taxation from New York University School of Law and earned both a B.S. and B.A., summa cum laude, from Brooklyn College.
Prior to joining the firm, Jason practiced at large multinational law firms in New York City and Florida.

- Advised the founder of a public company in the successful transfer of more than $100 million in company shares to trusts for descendants, free of gift and estate tax, using grantor retained annuity trusts.
- Advised hedge fund principals on establishing family dynasty trusts using fund interests.
- Advised a leading commercial real estate owner regarding gifts and sales to a grantor trust, as well as the subsequent administration involved.
- Advised a substantial owner of a public company regarding the tax implications of creating a charitable remainder trust using company shares.
- Advised a public company executive regarding the Hart-Scott-Rodino ramifications of retaining certain trust powers in irrevocable trusts.
- Advised the owner of a health insurance entity regarding income tax and estate tax advice in connection with planning for a significant sale of stock.
- Advised a private equity investor in establishing an estate plan involving significant cryptocurrency holdings.
